Cross Country at the New Jersey Jam
Sep 01 | Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. – Rutgers cross country competed at the New Jersey Jam on Friday evening at Princeton to open the 2023 season. The Scarlet Knights hit the course with three other Garden State foes, including the host Tigers, Monmouth and Rider.
"Today was a good start for the group," said head coach Matthew Jelley. "We held out our more experienced runners and got a chance to get a good look at our younger runners. They gained much needed experience as many of them raced representing the Block R for the first time. It gave us a look at what we need to work on as the majority of the squad will be back next week as we head to Wisconsin for the Big Ten preview."
Rutgers was paced by Zeb Hinker on the men's side who recorded a top-20 finish as he placed 18th overall in 17:35.4. Jack Moran finished 21st in 17:43.5, followed by Micah Lawson (25th, 17:55.1), Billy Clewell (27th, 18:00.3) and Hisham Ettayebi (31st, 18:03.4)
The women's squad posted a pair of top-20 finishes led by Rylee Ferretti, who finished 14th with a time of 14:40.3 and Lorena David in 20th-place in 15:02.0. They were joined in the scoring by Emma Baeyens (22nd, 15:10.5), Kaila Spence (27th, 15:22.2) and Lillie Widmer (28, 15:28.8).
The Scarlet Knights will travel to Madison, Wisconsin for the Badger Classic on the Zimmer Championship Course, a preview for the Big Ten Championships in October.
