ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Rutgers football (3-1, 1-1) lost its road opener to No. 2 Michigan (4-0, 1-0), 31-7, on Saturday afternoon at Michigan Stadium. The Scarlet Knights scored first, but the Wolverines held RU scoreless in the second half en route to the win.

QB Gavin Wimsatt threw a touchdown pass for the fourth-straight game, connecting with WR Christian Dremel for a 69-yard score on the opening series. Dremel found the end zone for the second consecutive week and finished with a career high 85 receiving yards.

LB Tyreem Powell and DL Wesley Bailey each collected a sack on defense.

FIRST HALF
Rutgers wasted no time to start the game producing a touchdown on the third play from scrimmage. Wimsatt threw a dart over the middle to Dremel, who made the catch and scampered all the way for a 69-yard touchdown. The pass was a career long for Wimsatt and gave the Scarlet Knights a 7-0 lead just a minute into the game. On the ensuing RU drive, P Flynn Appleby boomed a career-long 75-yard punt to flip the field, tied for the fifth-longest punt in program history.

The Wolverines answered later in the quarter with a seven-play, 94-yard touchdown drive to tie things up at 7-7. The home team added another just before halftime to take a 14-7 lead at the break.

SECOND HALF
A sack from Powell forced Michigan to settle for a field goal on the opening drive of the half. UM would add two more touchdowns on a pick-six and five-yard touchdown rush to make it 31-7.
