Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Rutgers women's tennis team continued its strong play at the Yale Invitational on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights faced Brown University on day two of the three-day event, claiming seven total wins over the Bears.
Sophomore
Mai Nguyen stayed unbeaten on the weekend, earning wins in singles and doubles play, while graduate transfer
Yana Gurevich claimed her first singles win as a Scarlet Knight.
Doubles
RU split the doubles courts with Brown, as each team took home two wins.
Amira Badawi and teammate Nguyen downed their doubles opponent for the second-straight day, claiming a 6-3 win over the Bears.
Newcomers Gurevich and freshman
Naomi Karki teamed up for the first time, battling to a 6-4 victory on their court.
Singles
Following a tough competition against Yale on Friday, Rutgers bounced back in singles play on Saturday, recording five singles wins over Brown. Gurevich, Jackie Lopez,
Minchae Kim, and
Arina Valitova all claimed their first singles victories of the fall campaign.
Lopez was challenged by Brown's Lindsey Hofflander, but the junior was able to come away with a tough 7-6, 6-4 win.
Gurevich was able to complete a comeback to record her first singles win in her Rutgers career. After losing the first set to Dani Ben-Abraham of Brown, the Los Gatos, Calif. native fought back to win the match, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0.
After claiming the first set on her court, Valitova dropped the second set to opponent Hannah Shen, but was able to earn a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 win.
Kim claimed the first set in her match against Gabby Soliman, 6-4, and was up 3-2 in the second set when the competition was retired.
Nguyen continued her strong start to the fall with a straight-sets victory over Brown's Lindsey Hofflander, 7-6, 6-4.
