Caitlin Schweihofer Earns 100th Career Win In 3-1 Victory At Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Rutgers head coach Caitlin Schweihofer picked up her 100th career victory on Wednesday night as the Scarlet Knight volleyball team defeated Rider, 3-1, at Alumni Gymnasium.

RU improved to 5-1 on the season behind a 25-12, 27-25, 25-21, 25-15 victory. The Broncs, meanwhile, dropped to 1-5.

STANDOUT STATS
  • Four Scarlet Knights landed in double-figure kills led by senior Kristina Grkovic with 13. Grkovic swung .643 for the match with only one error on 19 attempts. Both redshirt sophomore Rikki Williams and sophomore Lexi Visintine collected their first career double-digit kill outings with 12 and 10 respectively. Alissa Kinkela added 11 kills.
  • Fifth-year senior Alyssa Nayar notched her third double-double of the season putting up a season-high 49 assists and 11 digs.
  • Nayar was also one of a trio in double-figure digs. Senior Madyson Chitty led the way with 18 digs with sophomore Taylor Humphrey contributing 14.
  • At the net, Grkovic led RU with six total blocks, while Williams swatted away five including two solo stops.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Set 1 (25-12) |  A 6-2 run gave Rutgers a 12-5 edge and grew the margin to a 13-point victory. The Scarlet Knights swung .303 in the frame while the Broncs were in the negative with only five kills to seven attack error. Kristina Grkovic led the way with four kills on four swings while adding a pair of blocks.
 
  • Set 2 (25-27) | It was a 6-1 run by the Broncs giving Rider a 12-8 lead but Rutgers came back with the frame tied nine times down the stretch with the hosts eventually coming out on top Both squads hit at over a .300 clip with RU swinging .375. Kristina Grkovic and Rikki Williams both pounded out four kills on eight swings with no errors.
 
  • Set 3 (15-25) | RU led by as many as a trio of points early before Rider scored five unanswered for a 14-12 lead. The Scarlet Knights responded with their own run using six-straight point including three kills from Kristina Grkovic to go in front at 18-14 and stay ahead. Alissa Kinkela put away five kills hitting .444 for the frame
 
  • Set 4  (15-25) | Rutgers led from start to finish hitting a match-best .360. A 9-1 run put the Scarlet Knights solidly in front at 15-7.  Lexi Visintine poured in five kills.
UP NEXT
  • Rutgers volleyball returns to action this weekend in New York. The Scarlet Knights head to Columbia for a neutral site match with Morgan State on Friday, September 8 at 3:30 p.m. and take on the Lions on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
