Cross Country Travels to Long Island
Sep 09 | Cross Country
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Inclement weather caused flight cancellations that resulted in Rutgers cross country remaining local for its second race of the season. The Scarlet Knights were originally scheduled to compete at the Badger Classic in Wisconsin, however, the program will instead participate in the LIU Fall Festival in Brookville, New York on Saturday.
The men's 8k race will begin at 10:15 a.m. with the women's 5k to follow at 11 a.m. A live stream of the LIU Fall Festival is available via NEC Front Row, while live race results are available here.
"We were looking forward to heading out to Wisconsin for the Big Ten preview but unfortunately Mother Nature didn't cooperate, and we had to pivot to another option. "Thankfully coach Sauer at LIU was able to accommodate us on short notice and it gives us a good local option because we weren't sure we would be able to race this weekend. It would have been great to compete against the other Big Ten schools and get a look at the championship course, but the athletes are resilient, and they're excited to go out and compete in Long Island. This will be the first time with the complete squad so it's an opportunity to work together and run as a pack."
The Badger Classic, which was set to feature several conference opponents, is the site of the Big Ten Championships in Oct. at the Zimmer Course.
Rutgers opened the season at the New Jersey Jam, competing against Monmouth, Rider and host Princeton. It was an opportunity for several Scarlet Knights to make their collegiate debuts. Zeb Hinker was the lead runner on the men's side as he recorded a top-20 finish to place 18th overall, while newcomer Rylee Ferretti led on the women's side placing 14th overall.
