PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers field hockey welcomes a new addition to the roster. Maddie Olshemski, a native of Shavertown, Pa., joins the program as a transfer following one season playing in the Big Ten at Indiana. Olshemski will join the team this semester for spring practices, ahead of her sophomore season come the fall 2024 season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Maddie to the Rutgers Field Hockey family," head coach Meredith Civico said. "She is a focused and driven athlete who has a clear desire to grow, to learn and to be the very best she can be. We are excited to see her contribution to the team and couldn't be happier that she is a Scarlet Knight."
With the ability to play both midfield and forward, Olshemski played in 11 games in 2023 at IU, making one start, coming at No. 20 Duke in the season opener. She recorded four shots during the season.
Prior to college, Olshemski was named to USA Field Hockey's U-21 Junior Women's National Team Selection Camp. She previously participated with Team USA three times at the Nexus Championship (2021, 2022 and 2023) and was at the USA U-19 Rise Selection Camp. She also played in the Stars and Stripes Elite Game in 2021 and 2022
Olshemski had a successful prep career at Wyoming Seminary, where she was a team captain. The team won three PIAA Class 2A State Championships as well as three league championships and three district championships. She was named a Citizens Voice All-Star four times and was a two-time First Team All-State honoree.
The daughter of Cindy and Frank Olshemski, she has four siblings: Gaby, Matt, Stephen and Becka. Her sister, Gaby, played collegiate field hockey in college at Indiana. She also played basketball and lacrosse in high school.
