PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers women's basketball (4-0) remains unbeaten, following a 81-53 victory over Iona (0-3) on Friday morning at Jersey Mike's Arena.
Destiny Adams paced the team once again with her 11th career double-double, recording 28 points and 11 rebounds. Kiyomi McMiller (14), Lisa Thompson (12) and JoJo Lacey (10) also reached double figures.
The Scarlet Knights dominated from the tip, holding the Gaels to just nine points in the first quarter. The team would go onto keep the lead and get it to as high as 30 points in the fourth quarter.
How it Happened
- A free throw from Adams followed by a layup from Lacey got Rutgers out to an early 3-2 lead.
- RU kept its foot on the gas, as Adams hit a three-pointer and Cornwell followed up with a three-point play.
- Adams also added three free throws to make the score 12-6 at the 4:12 media timeout. Cornwell and Adams combined for another five points to widen the gap, 17-6.
- Mya Petticord recorded a long two and Lisa Thompson a jumper before Iona contributed three shots from the line before the end of the period. The Scarlet Knights entered the second quarter with a 21-9 edge.
- The Gaels added back-to-back buckets to start the second and cut the deficit, 21-13, with just under 7:30 to play.
- Janae Walker made an immediate impact off the bench, netting consecutive layups and a block on defense.
- Iona recorded five points, but Petticord kept RU in it with another long two-point jumper to make the score 28-18 with just under three minutes in the half. JoJo Lacey kept it going with a transition three.
- Despite the Gaels closing out the quarter on a 6-2 run, Rutgers still remained on top, 33-25.
- Adams and Kiyomi McMiller got RU on the board in the third with four combined free throws. Lacey hit her second three of the contest but Iona followed up with a deep ball of its own, in addition to two free throws to make it an eight-point game, 40-32.
- Zachara Perkins cashed in on a driving layup to get it back to a 10-point difference at the 4:43 media timeout. McMiller and Lisa Thompson netted back-to-back buckets to force a timeout from the Gaels at 3:39, with the Scarlet Knights in control, 46-32.
- Out of the break, RU extended its run to 10-0 with another bucket from McMiller and a pair of shots at the charity stripe from Thompson. Iona put an end to the run with a layup with just over two to play.
- Adams entered the game and added a coast-to-coast score and a layup before a layup from McMiller at the buzzer to make the score 55-40.
- Adams picked up in the fourth where she left off, with another hard-fought score in the paint. She followed up with yet another score from underneath off the feed from McMiller.
- Lacey added a transition layup right before the 7:31 media timeout as Rutgers remained on top, 61-42.
- The Scarlet Knights kept rolling out of the stop, going on a 13-2 run over the first half of the period, highlighted by four points from McMiller.
- Both teams traded baskets to end the final 10-minute period but RU still came out on top, 81-53.

- Destiny Adams has now recorded three consecutive double-doubles after her 28 points and 11 rebounds versus the Gaels. Dating back to last season, Adams has reached double digit points in 21 consecutive contests.
- Adams has amassed seven 20+ point games at RU and 11 outings with 10+ rebounds.
- Zachara Perkins topped the stats with two blocks and three assists along with Mya Petticord. Kiyomi McMiller also led the squad with three steals.
- McMiller scored all 14 of her points in the second half, her second performance of the season with double figure points.
- In addition to Adams, three other Scarlet Knights reached 10+ points, for the second time this season four players have hit double-digits.
- Rutgers held Iona to just nine points in the first quarter, the lowest for an opponent this season.
- RU has outrebounded its opponent in all four games this season, earning the three-board edge over Iona, 45-42.
- Rutgers held Iona to 17.4 percent (4-of-23) beyond the arc.
- The Scarlet Knights defeated the Gaels by 28, their biggest margin of victory this season.
