Spilis Repeats as Big Ten Midfielder of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Cassidy Spilis was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Week for the second consecutive time, announced Tuesday by the Conference. Spilis tallied five goals – including the 200th of her career – to help No. 24 Rutgers women's lacrosse to a 13-6 road win at Georgetown last Saturday in Washington, D.C.
 
It is the seventh Big Ten midfielder weekly honor of her career and her ninth overall weekly laurel from the conference. Spilis has been named Big Ten Midfielder of the Week at least once in each of the past three seasons.
 
Spilis produced a game-high six points on five goals and an assist for the Scarlet Knights, which included four goals in the first 30 minutes of play. The Tabernacle, New Jersey, native become the first player in program history to surpass 200 career goals, with her five against the Hoyas putting her at 203 goals in 65 career games. Spilis also added five draw controls, a caused turnover and ground ball in the road win.
 
Through two games, Spilis leads the Big Ten in draw controls per game (6.50), goals per game (5.50) and points per game (6.50). A 2024 preseason All-American by both ILWomen and USA Lacrosse Magazine as well as a Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection, Spilis is first in program history in career goals (203) and fourth in points with 215.
 
Rutgers hosts Monmouth on Wednesday at SHI Stadium. First draw is set for 6 p.m.
