Swimming Collects Seven Top 10 Times & Five NCAA B Cuts On Final Day Of B1G Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Seven Scarlet Knight swimmers advanced to final action on day four of the 2024 Big Ten Championships at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatics Center on Saturday.

Rutgers had three finalists in each of the 200 back and 200 breast along with an appearance in the 100 fly.

Additionally on day four action, the Scarlet Knights logged seven top 10 Rutgers record book entries and five NCAA B cuts.
 
SPRINTS
  • Rutgers sent three to finals racing in the 100 back. Valeria Egorova and Shannon Meadway finished 3-4 in the B final. Egorova finished fourth in the final in 1:56.23, just one second off her NCAA B cut prelim swim and season-best time.
  • Meadway, meanwhile, qualified for the B final in 1:58.08 marking the ninth fastest time "On The Banks" and proceeded to drop 1.63 seconds in the final to hit the wall in 1:56.45. The finals swim moved Meadway up to sixth in the record book as she collected an NCAA B cut. Martyna Piesko clocked in a 1:59.51 for a seventh-place finish in the C final only .03 seconds behind her PR.
  • The trio of Tina Celik, Elysha Pribadi and Molly Urkiel were back in the breast finals with two of the three Scarlet Knights moved up the all-time lists. Pribadi hit the wall in 2:13.48 in the B final for fourth marking not only an NCAA B cut but also the fourth fastest time on record at Rutgers. However, it was Urkiel with an even faster time in the C final. Urkiel clocked in at 2:13.44 as the C final's runner-up for the third fastest time at RU dropping 2.01 seconds off her time entering the championships. Celik finished right behind Urkiel in third in 2:13.61.
  • Blanka Berecz rounded out the day four finalists making the B final of 200 fly with the fifth fastest Rutgers time on record touching in 1:59.26 just missing a B cut by .03 seconds. She finished fourth in the final capturing 1:59.58.
DISTANCE
  • Rutgers had a trio of record book entries come out of the 1650 free. Orian Gablan raced to a mile time of 16:50.00 for eighth in the Scarlet Knights' top ten and put her name eighth with her 1000 free split of 10:05.26. Megan Fox also put her name on the 1000 top ten list with her split of 10:06.97 for ninth.

  • Rutgers women's swimming will be at the ECAC Last Chance Meet on Feb. 29- Mar. 3 while diving will be at NCAA Zone A competition at Princeton on Mar. 11-13.
