PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse goalkeeper
Cardin Stoller was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. It was the second weekly award of the season for the redshirt freshman through four weeks.
The Owing Mills, native had a homecoming game last Saturday at Loyola, facing the Greyhounds just 3.5 miles away from where he went to high school at the Boys Latin School. Stoller recorded a career-best 15 saves in the 13-5 win over Loyola, who had been the top "receiving votes" team in the polls that week.
Stoller had a save percentage of 75.0%, the best for a Rutgers' goalkeeper since Colin Kirst on February 12, 2022 (76.9%), a span of 33 games. His 15 saves were the most for a RU goalkeeper in a calendar year (13 games) and the five goals were tied for fewest given up since March 2, 2019. It was just the third time over the past 65 games that RU surrendered fewer than six goals in a game.
Stoller was also nationally recognized for his performance with a placement on the USILA Team of the Week. He is the third different Scarlet Knight to be named to the USILA Team of the Week this season, joining
Ross Scott and
Tommy Mendyke.
Up next, Rutgers will start a stretch of three home games in an eight-day span. The Scarlet Knights next host Hofstra this Saturday, March 2, at SHI Stadium.
