Spilis, Tini Claim Big Ten Weekly Laurels

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Graduate student Cassidy Spilis and freshman Payton Tini earned weekly recognition from the Big Ten Conference, announced Tuesday by the league office. Spilis collected her third consecutive Big Ten Midfielder of the Week accolade and eighth of her career. Tini earned Big Ten Rookie of the Week honors for the first time.

Both helped No. 22 Rutgers women's lacrosse to wins over Army and Monmouth last week at SHI Stadium. With their 4-0 record, the Scarlet Knights are one of 19 remaining undefeated teams in the country and are 4-0 for the third time in four seasons under head coach Melissa Lehman.

Spilis combined for 11 draw controls, seven goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers across two games. The Tabernacle, New Jersey, native tallied a team-high eight draw controls and two goals against Monmouth and followed with a game-high five goals in RU's 16-9 win over Army last Saturday.

Tini produced five points on four goals and an assist along with two ground balls and a caused turnover in Rutgers' two wins last week. Tini tied a career high with three points against the Hawks and was one of five Scarlet Knights to add two or more goals against the Black Knights.

Rutgers closes the month with a road game at Princeton on Wednesday, February 28. First draw is set for 7 p.m. at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
