Martyna Piesko Resets 41 Year-Old Devaney Pool Record In 100 Fly

LINCOLN, Neb. – Rutgers swimming & diving's Martyna Piesko reset a 41 year-old Devaney Pool record on the second day of the Scarlet Knights' two-day dual meet with Nebraska.

However, it was the Cornhuskers emerging with a 240-113 victory in the final tune-up prior to the Big Ten Championships.

FROM THE POOL DECK
  • Martyna Piesko hit the wall in 53.11 in the 100 fly to reset the previous Devaney Pool record of 53.54 set by Jill Sterkel of Texas in capturing the NCAA title in 1983. Piesko's time also tied her PR which was set back in December at the Hawkeye Challenge and is third all-time in the Rutgers record book.
  • It marks the fourth time the Scarlet Knights have set a Devaney Pool record. In their last trip to Lincoln back on January 30, 2022, three of the four RU relay teams set new pool records. The 200 medley relay, which included current Scarlet Knight Tina Celik, bested the previous time set by the 1983 championship Stanford relay team, the 400 medley relay team, that also included Celik, topped the previous record by Florida's 1983 championship relay team and the 400 free relay team outpaced the time registered by the 1983 NCAA champion Texas relay squad.
  • In addition to Piesko's record and win in the 100 fly, Rutgers also picked up a first-place performance by Giulia Vittorioso on 1M with a score of 277.35. It marked Vittorioso third 1M crown of the season.
