Cardin Stoller Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Men's Lacrosse Goalkeeper Earns Accolade Following First Career Start

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 14 Rutgers men's lacrosse redshirt freshman goalkeeper Cardin Stoller was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the Big Ten Conference office announced following the first weekend of games. A native of Owings Mills, Md., Stoller made his collegiate debut as the RU starting goalkeeper in the Scarlet Knights' 14-12 win over Lehigh in the opening game.

A product of the Boys Latin School, Stoller made 10 saves in the cage for RU. Making his collegiate debut, and with RU debuting a brand new three starters on close defense, Stoller helped RU overcome an early deficit, getting stronger as the game went along, making nine of his saves in the final 45 minutes. With Stoller in cage, RU held Lehigh to just three goals in a 31-minute span over the middle of the game, helping turn a three-goal deficit to a three-goal advantage. Stoller also allowed just one goal in the final 11 minutes of the game.

Stoller was also active outside of the cage, with four ground balls and one caused turnovers. His four ground balls were the most on the team among any non-faceoff specialist.

Stoller is the first Big Ten weekly award winner for the Scarlet Knights this season. The team did not have a Freshman of the Week award winner last season, last earning a Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award on March 22, 2022.

Stoller and the Scarlet Knights are back in action this weekend for the team's first road game. RU travels to Stony Brook for a noon game on Saturday.
