Cardin Stoller Earns Two Big Ten Weekly Awards

Goalkeeper Named Big Ten Freshman and Specialist of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 17/18 Rutgers men's lacrosse goalkeeper Cardin Stoller earned multiple weekly awards on Tuesday from the Big Ten Conference Office. Stoller was named both the Big Ten Freshman of the Week and the Big Ten Specialist of the Week following his 19-save performance in a 10-9 win over UMass on Saturday.

Stoller was also named the National Division I Player of the Week earlier in the day by USA Lacrosse Magazine. He has now been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times this year. With teammate Colin Kurdyla earning the accolade twice in back-to-back weeks preceding this, RU has claimed five of the seven Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards this season. This is the first Big Ten Specialist of the Week this season for RU, and the first by a RU player since Jon Dugenio on April 26, 2022.

Stoller made a career-high 19 saves in allowing just nine goals in a one-goal victory (10-9) over UMass at a neutral site on Long Island, playing in Farmingdale. The Owing Mills, Md. native made the game-sealing play as the contest came down to the last possession, with a great save at the final buzzer to preserve the win.

Stoller allowed just two goals in the final 32 minutes of the game, just one over the final 20 minutes and none in the final 12 minutes of the game to allow RU to turn a two-goal halftime deficit into a win. He did so while also facing three man-up opportunities in the second half.

The 19 saves were the most by any Big Ten goalkeeper this season. It was the most saves by a RU goalkeeper since Colin Kirst had 19 vs. Marist, Feb. 9, 2022, a span of 38 games.

The Boys Latin product also had two ground balls and a caused turnover in the game, posting a 67.9 save percentage while facing 39 shots. Stoller is now second in the Big Ten in saves per game (11.75) and save percentage (56.0%).

Stoller and the Scarlet Knights are back in action Sunday to resume Big Ten play. RU will host No. 11/13 Johns Hopkins, a 4:30 pm game with a national television broadcast on Big Ten Network.
