PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the second time in three seasons,
Cassidy Spilis has been named a Tewaaraton Award nominee, announced Thursday by the Tewaaraton Foundation. Spilis is one of 25 nominees from across the country and represents the third consecutive year Rutgers women's lacrosse has had at least one student-athlete earn top-25 recognition for the prestigious award under head coach
Melissa Lehman.
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are composed of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation. Five men's and five women's finalists will be selected from these groups, to be announced May 9 at the conclusion of the regular season.
Spilis, who was also a Tewaaraton Award nominee as a junior in 2022, is currently third in the country with 59 goals heading into the final week of the regular season. In 14 games, Spilis has tallied 62 points on 59 goals and three helpers to go along with 79 draw controls, 29 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. A five-time Big Ten Midfielder of the Week this season, Spilis has produced 12 games with three or more goals and nine with five or more in 2024.
A three-time All-American, all-region and all-conference selection, Spilis is three points away from surpassing current assistant coach
Taralyn Naslonski for the most points in program history with 267. Spilis also owns the program record for career goals (251) and is second in career draw controls (294) and third in career caused turnovers (90) "On the Banks."
Rutgers closes out the regular season with a pair of road games this week, beginning at Ohio State tonight in Columbus. First draw from Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium is set for 6 p.m. ET and will stream on Big Ten Plus.
