Women’s Lacrosse Wraps Up Regular Season Sunday at Vermont

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (7-8, 1-5) closes its regular season with an out-of-conference matchup at Vermont (7-7, 1-4) on Sunday in Burlington. First draw from Virtue Field is set for noon ET and will stream on ESPN+.
 
Last Time Out
  • Rutgers earned a come-from-behind 13-11 victory at Ohio State on Thursday night in Columbus.
  • Down as many as five goals at the Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium, the Scarlet Knights outscored the Buckeyes, 9-4, in the second half to complete the road rally.
  • Graduate student Cassidy Spilis sparked a 6-1 scoring run for RU in the final 13 minutes of the game with three of her game-high five goals during the stretch to become the program's all-time points scorer with 269 during her illustrious career. Spilis finished with five goals, six draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Big Ten Tournament
  • With its win over the Buckeyes, Rutgers secured the No. 6 seed for next weekend's Big Ten Conference Tournament when the quarterfinals begin on Saturday, April 27. The Scarlet Knights will face either Maryland or Northwestern when seeding is finalized this weekend.
 
Spilis Makes History
  • With her five-goal outing in Columbus, Spilis moved pass assistant coach Taralyn Naslonski for the most points in school history at 269.
  • Spilis also became the second student-athlete in school history to hit 300 career draw controls with her six at Ohio State. Spilis needs just nine draw controls to surpass Meghan Ball for the school record.
 
Spilis Leads the Way
  • Spilis leads the Big Ten and is second nationally with 64 goals this season. The Tabernacle, New Jersey, native is also fourth in the country in goals per game (4.27), as well as fourth in the conference in points (67), points per game (4.47), caused turnovers per game (1.73) and draw controls per game (5.67).
  • For the second time in three seasons, Spilis has been named a Tewaaraton Award nominee, announced Thursday by the Tewaaraton Foundation. Spilis is one of 25 nominees from across the country and represents the third consecutive year Rutgers women's lacrosse has had at least one student-athlete earn top-25 recognition for the prestigious award under head coach Melissa Lehman
 
Corbin Excells in First Start
  • Junior Alexa Corbin made her first career start on Thursday and took full advantage, netting a hat trick in the win. Corbin has produced three or more points in three of her last four games, including a career-high four points on three assists and a goal last week at No. 15 Stony Brook.
 
Scouting Vermont & Series History
  • The Catamounts enter Sunday with seven wins, including a 17-4 victory over Le Moyne on Wednesday in their last time out.
  • Ava Vasile leads Vermont and is 27th nationally with 49 goals this season. Vasile has also dished out 13 assists and has caused 1.43 turnovers per game.
  • Rutgers leads the all-time series with Vermont, 2-1, which includes a 15-7 victory last season in Burlington.

  • Rutgers begins its postseason next weekend with the Big Ten Tournament. The Scarlet Knights will be on the road when the quarterfinals begin on Saturday, April 27 at either Maryland or Northwestern.
