PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the sixth time this season, graduate student Cassidy Spilis has earned Big Ten Midfielder of the Week honors, announced Tuesday by the conference. Spilis combined for 10 points on nine goals and an assist to go along with 10 draw controls, seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls in games at Ohio State and Vermont last week.
In a comeback win at Ohio State last Thursday, Spilis sparked a 6-1 scoring run for the Scarlet Knight in the final 13 minutes of the game with three of her game-high five goals during the stretch to become the program's all-time points scorer with 269 during her illustrious career. Spilis finished with five goals, six draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Buckeyes, also becoming the second player in program history to hit 300 career draw controls.
Spilis followed with five points on four goals and an assist to go along with five caused turnovers, four draw controls and three ground balls on Sunday at Vermont.
Spilis has tallied 72 points on 68 goals and four helpers, while producing 89 draw controls, 36 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers in 16 games this season. Her 68 goals lead the Big Ten and are second nationally.
In 79 career games, Spilis owns 274 points on 260 goals and 14 assists to go along with 304 draw controls, 146 ground balls and 97 caused turnovers. Spilis' 274 points and 260 goals are both career records at Rutgers, while she needs just five more draw controls for the most in school history.
Rutgers earned the No. 6 seed for this weekend's Big Ten Tournament and faces No. 3 seed Maryland on Saturday, April 27 in College Park. First draw is set for 4 p.m. ET and will stream on Big Ten Plus.
