PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football's season opener against Howard at SHI Stadium has been moved to Thursday, Aug. 29 and will kick off at 6 p.m., the Big Ten announced Thursday. The game will broadcast on Big Ten Network.

Other game times released by the conference include the Sept. 7 home matchup versus Akron (noon, Big Ten Network). It will mark the annual R Community Game, presented by GGL Law Firm, which features a celebration and pregame parade for Eric LeGrand's "A Walk to Believe." LeGrand's walk is sponsored by Prudential and GGL Law Firm.

Homecoming & Family Weekend is highlighted by the Oct. 19 game versus UCLA, presented by RWJBarnabas Health. Kickoff will be at either noon, 3:30 p.m. or 4 p.m., determined as part of the 12-/6-day in-season selection process. The same options go for the road game at Nebraska on Oct. 5.

The Scarlet Knights last started a season with a Thursday game in 2014, a 41-38 victory over Washington State in Seattle. The last Thursday night game to open the season at home was a 48-0 shutout win in 2011 against NC Central.
