Victoria Grieder & Lily Wood Named to Rowing All-America

Grieder (Second Team) and Wood (Honorable Mention) earn honors from the CRCA

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Junior Victoria Grieder of Rutgers rowing has been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America Second Team for the 2024 season, announced by the College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). Sophomore Lily Wood has earned CRCA All-America Honorable Mention, giving the Scarlet Knights a pair of All-Americans this spring.

Grieder (coxswain) and Wood are members of the Rutgers Varsity 8, which placed 15th in the country at the NCAA Championships and fourth in the Big Ten Conference Championships in May. The Scarlet Knight teammates won the C/D semifinal on Saturday at the NCAA Championships, edging No. 14 Virginia in a photo finish by 0.289 seconds. The V8 was fourth at Big Tens, less than a second behind Ohio State and a Big Ten medal.

In the final tuneup for championship season, Grieder and Wood helped lead the V8 to the grand final of the Women's Eastern Sprints and took a silver medal behind then-No. 7 Brown.

Each year the coaches of the CRCA recognize the outstanding student-athletes in each Division. Criteria for the award include:
  • The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
  • The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat
  • The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution
  • The Head Coach of the student-athlete's institution must be a member in good standing of the CRCA
All-America athletes are selected from those athletes already named First Team All-Region. Criteria considered for selection include: boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements, and 2k erg score.

Grieder and Wood represent Rutgers' 13th and 14th All-America honors under seventh-year head coach Justin Price, including 14 during the current five-year NCAA Championships run since 2019.

Price led the Scarlet Knights to a fifth consecutive NCAA Championships in 2024, finishing 14th in the country at the national regatta with the Varsity 4 leading the way with a 10th place national standing. Rutgers also tied its best Big Ten Championships finish with a third place showing while winning a Big Ten gold medal for a third consecutive year with the 3rd Varsity 4 winning its second Big Ten title. The Scarlet Knights also claimed two Big Ten Boat of the Week honors in 2024 - the 3V4 on May 7 after a gold at the Eastern Sprints and the 2nd Varsity 4 after wins over No. 8 Penn and No. 11 Ohio State at the Big Ten/Ivy Dust Up in March.
