Women's Soccer Strikes Thrice in Shutout of Lehigh

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer (2-1-1) withstood a 103-minute weather delay to finish off a 3-0 victory over Lehigh (1-2-0) on Wednesday evening at Yurcak Field.

Three young Scarlet Knights picked up their first collegiate points in the victory. Redshirt freshman midfielder Gabriela Gil grabbed the game-winner in just the 5th minute for her first collegiate goal. Freshman Mikayla Mandleur picked up her first assist on the second goal of the game, scored by Allie Post in the 36th minute.

Post then fed a one-time ball to freshman Shaela Bradley, who banked her first assist on a dish to Riley Tiernan's goal in the 67th minute following the weather delay to seal the 3-0 score.

"We did a really good job getting in behind the defense," Post said. "That's something we've been working on for the last couple of practices. I'm glad we were able to execute that today.

"The delay was tough, but we didn't let it show," Post said. "We went into the locker room, had a little dance party, then refocused before coming back out and getting another goal."

Gil's goal was started by Tiernan, whose side pass in front of Lehigh's 18-yard box found her open for a quick shot that found the right-side netting for the quick 1-0 lead with 4:12 elapsed on the game clock.

Post found herself on a breakaway after Mandleur's pass sprung her ahead. The junior slotted a shot past the charging keeper to put RU up 2-0.

Following 103 minutes of weather delay, play restarted in the 52nd minute. In the 67th, Post started a break with a heads-up, one-time pass to Bradley, who found Tiernan streaking into the box, where the senior striker finished strong for her first goal of the season to post the final insurance goal and the 3-0 advantage.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer made three saves in the shutout in net.

Rutgers will remain home to face Maine on Sun., Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
