HOME SWEEP HOME: Volleyball Takes A Bite Out Of The Sharks In Straight Sets

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – It was home sweep home for Rutgers volleyball in their 2024 home opener on Tuesday night against LIU.

The Scarlet Knights picked up their third sweep of the season and second in-a-row behind set scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-11 at Jersey Mike's Arena.

STANDOUT STATS
  • The attack was led by redshirt junior Alissa Kinkela's 15 kills hitting .343 on the night.
  • Freshman Lily Bolen logged a double-double in her Jersey Mike's debut with a team-leading 13 helpers and 11 digs.
  • Sophomore Kenzie Dyrstad, junior Lexi Visintine and Bolen each had a pair of service aces..
  • Also in a Jersey Mike's debut, freshman Natalie Robinson notched six blocks to along with five kills.
  • Drystad joined Bolen with double-figure digs with a team-high 14.
  • Redshirt freshman Krista Dooley made her first career start.
KEY MOMENTS
  • SET 1 (25-18) | Rutgers used two significant runs to take its first home set win of the year. RU produced an 8-2 run to take a 13-9 advantage prompting an LIU timeout and went on a 9-3 run to pull ahead 20-24 capped by the tape tickler by Aly Borellis for the ace.   Alissa Kinkela hammered in five kills with Lexi Visintine contributing four. Natalie Robinson captured three of RU's six blocks.
  • SET 2 (25-22) | With nine ties and the frame even at 20-20, Rutgers closed out the set outscoring the Sharks 6-2 to for the 2-0 lead. Included in the late surge was one of Kenzie Dyrstad's two aces and three kills from Kinkela, including set point. Lexi Visintine posted six of her nine digs in the stanza.
 
  • SET 3 (25-11) | It marked back-to-back games with RU holding its opponent to 11 points, the fewest of the season, in the third set. LIU hit in the negative while Kinkela continued to hammer away with six points on her seven swings.

  • Rutgers volleyball's weekend continues with Binghamton on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. and VCU on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.
