PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rutgers men's soccer (3-2) fell to Providence (3-1-1) on the road Friday night, 1-0. Â
The Scarlet Knights batted with several close offensive opportunities but ultimately could not find the back of the net against the Friars.Â
In the 17th minute, starting defender Nick Collins was assessed a red card, forcing RU to play a man down for the remainder of the match. Despite the card, Rutgers fought to keep it scoreless at halftime. Â
Just six minutes after the break, Providence was able to break through and score the only goal of the contest to earn the victory. Â

- The decision marks tthe first game this season Rutgers has not scored. Â
- Goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton recorded eight saves, the 11th time in his career he has accumulated five or more saves in a game, including three times this season.Â
- Dalton has now accumulated 25 saves during the 2024 campaign. Â Â
- Freshmen Scott Godden earned his fifth consecutive contest for the Scarlet Knights and is the only rookie to start all five games so far this season.Â
- Other rookies in Dylan Carlson, Thomas Angelone, Illia Tyrkus, Matty Lynch and Kristófer Arnarsson also got on the pitch. Â
Looking Ahead  Â
Rutgers will return home to face in-state rival Seton Hall on Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field. The team will celebrate their Most Valuable Professors in addition to promoting Mental Health Awareness. Â
