PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball (8-6, 0-3 B1G) fell to No. 8/7 Maryland (13-0, 3-0 B1G), 78-61, on the road Thursday night. Â
Destiny Adams led scoring for the Scarlet Knights with 15 points while Kiyomi McMiller added 14. Adams also led the team off the boards with nine rebounds. Â
How it Happened Â
- JoJo Lacey kicked off scoring with a second chance layup on Rutgers' first possession. Maryland answered with a three-pointer to go up early. Â
- Each team added another deep ball, but the Terps recorded a layup to keep the three-point edge, 8-5, with just over six minutes to play. Â
- Adams added a bucket off a great look from Lacey to keep the difference and make the score 10-7 at the 4:58 media timeout. Â
- UMD went on a 7-0 run out of the stop, forcing the Scarlet Knights to call their first timeout at the 3:12 mark. Â
- McMiller netted her second three of the contest out of the pause but Maryland continued to put points on the board to stay in control. Â Â
- However, McMiller did not let up as she hit a deep shot from the logo at the buzzer to make the score 19-13, at the end of the opening 10 minutes. Â
- McMiller kept up the energy in the second period, recording a big three-point play to put the score back within three points, 19-16. Â
- Adams chipped in a layup, but UMD recorded eight points of their own to stay ahead, 26-18, with just 6:30 to play. Maryland added two more points before the 4:44 media timeout. Â
- The Terrapins' 11-point stretch was put to an end with a pair of intentional fouls and free throws. The opposition kept the lead though, 32-20. Â
- Chyna Cornwell fought for a second chance layup with under a minute to go in the half, but UMD still wrapped up with eight points to keep the 40-22 advantage going into the locker room.Â
- Lacey and Adams combined for seven points early in the third quarter to kick off scoring in the second half. Â
- However, Maryland continued to pile on points, going ahead, 52-33, at the 4:54 media stoppage.  Â
- Both teams traded buckets through the next several minutes. Adams added four points in the span in addition to a shot beyond the arc for Zachara Perkins. Â
- Perkins ended the third with a jumper for RU, but Maryland entered the final 10 minutes with a 21-point edge. Â
- The Terps began the final quarter on another run, but Awa Sidibe broke up the scoring with a pair of free throws in the 7th minute. Thompson followed up with a mid-range jumper to keep the momentum going. Â
- Sidibe came through once again, with a big three-point play at the quarter's halfway point to lessen the difference. Â
- Out of the 4:00 timeout, Cornwell scored followed by a three-pointer from Mya Petticord. The Scarlet Knights called their second timeout with 2:23 left in the contest.Â
- Following the stop, Perkins hit another three to give her eight points. Sidibe hit a three with just five seconds remaining but the Terrapins still came out with the victory, 78-61.Â
Knight Notes Â
- Destiny Adams recorded 15 points, her 11th outing with 10+ points this season. Â
- With 14 points, Kiyomi McMiller has now recorded 10+ points in 11 straight contests. Â
- Awa Sidibe led the team with three assists for a season best. Â
- Zachara Perkins made two threes to register a new personal best.
- Lisa Thompson tied her career-high three steals, which she has now reached three times. Â
- RU won the fourth quarter, 18-14. Â
- The Scarlet Knights also outscored the Terrapins in second chance points, 11-10. Â
