PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball (8-7, 0-4 B1G) was defeated by No. 4/5 USC (14-1, 4-0 B1G), 92-42, at Jersey Mike's Arena on Sunday night.Â
JoJo Lacey led the team with 14 points in addition to four rebounds. Destiny Adams collected a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards while swiping five steals.Â
How it HappenedÂ
- USC took the first lead of the game right away with a three-point shot, then added two more scores before a Rutgers timeout at 6:52.Â
- The Scarlet Knights scored their first points of the night out of the break with a Chyna Cornwell free throw, but the Trojans added another three-pointer right after.Â
- Destiny Adams got on the board with a jumper to make it a 10-3 ball game.Â
- After USC added five more, Adams scored once again with a shot at the charity stripe.Â
- The two teams traded baskets to end the quarter but the Trojans stayed up, 22-8.Â
- JoJo Lacey scored the first points of the second quarter with a layup. USC answered thought with a pair of free-throws and a layup of their own right before Rutgers called its second timeout with 6:04 remaining.Â
- The Trojans continued their run after the break scoring seven more to cap off the 11-point stretch. Â
- A Lacey jumper broke the USC streak and forced a timeout with 3:39 remaining.Â
- Lisa Thompson canceled out a Trojan score as the two teams headed to the locker room with USC still ahead, 37-14.Â
- USC rattled off a 12-point run to start the third quarter before Lacey added another score.Â
- Awa Sidibe and Zachara Perkins also entered the box score, trading baskets with the Trojans right after a RU timeout at 5:33.Â
- Lacey's deep shot and a free-throw from Mya Petticord finished off the Scarlet Knight scoring in the third quarter and USC maintained the lead, 69-24.Â
- Adams traded free-throws with the Trojans in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to keep the deficit.Â
- Perkins hit a three-pointer to matched three points from USC to keep pace with seven minutes to play.Â
- Adams and Lacey kept the fight up, both sinking deep shots with 5:23 remaining.Â
- The Trojans then went on another scoring spurt, scoring 12 straight once again.Â
- A layup from Perkins, two free-throws from Kennedy Brandt and a Petticord three-pointer added to the RU total, but USC took the game, 92-42.Â
