PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Ahead of the upcoming season, Rutgers men's lacrosse has unveiled this season's team captains. Senior defenseman
Tommy Mendyke and graduate student midfielder
Joe Juengerkes were bestowed the honor.
Mendyke enters his fourth season as a Scarlet Knight. A native of Eden Prairie, he became a full-time starter last season in all 14 games, collecting 20 ground balls and placing second on the team in caused turnovers with 12. He also earned placement to the USILA Team of the Week last season. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Mendyke was the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner last season. Over his career, he's played in 30 career games.
Juengerkes earned joined Rutgers this fall and earned instant recognition in the locker room for his leadership, being named captain before playing in his first collegiate game with the Scarlet Knights. A native of Islip, N.Y., Juengerkes played in 32 games at Princeton over the past three seasons at short-stick defensive midfield, with 14 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and one assist. He was named one of the 'Top Transfers' this offseason by
Inside Lacrosse.
The 2025 season starts this year on the road. Rutgers will play the earliest game in school history on February 1 at Lehigh. The team has one final set of scrimmages this Saturday, hosting Villanova (1 pm) and Hofstra (4 pm). The scrimmages will be indoors in the Rutgers bubble and will be closed to the public.
