Brittney O’Dell Named Deputy AD, Senior Woman Administrator

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers Athletics has announced the appointment of Brittney O'Dell as Deputy Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator. O'Dell brings nearly two decades of experience in senior administration, academic services, student-athlete development and leadership at the Division I level.
 
"Brittney's career reflects a proven commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience and fostering an environment of academic, athletic and personal growth," said Athletics Director Keli Zinn. "Her leadership will be invaluable as we continue to grow and compete at the highest level. I'm excited to welcome Brittney to the Rutgers family."

Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to collaborate closely with campus stakeholders, coaches and staff to enhance the student-athlete experience both on and off the field. As Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) at Rutgers, O'Dell will play a key role in department administration with oversight of human resources, compliance, academics, sports health and student-athlete development. She will also serve as the sport administrator for women's basketball and volleyball. 
 
O'Dell joins Rutgers from West Virginia University, where she spent 10 years, most recently serving as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services and Wellness. In that role, she provided strategic oversight of multiple units, including sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition, sport psychology, academics, and student-athlete development. O'Dell also served as sport administrator for men's and women's swimming and diving and women's tennis.
 
Throughout her tenure at WVU, O'Dell advanced student-athlete well-being by building cross-campus partnerships with academics, counseling and admissions units. Her leadership delivered measurable results, including record team GPAs, consistent graduation success and innovative wellness initiatives. She has been deeply involved in NCAA governance, budget planning and staff development.
 
O'Dell partnered with the Office of General Counsel and Employee Relations to manage personnel matters, compensation planning and contractual agreements. She also led annual budget planning discussions with the chief financial officer, managing multimillion dollar operational budgets across assigned units.
 
O'Dell began her collegiate career at UCF, working in academic services for student-athletes from 2009-15. She oversaw all daily academic operations, ensuring student-athletes maintained satisfactory progress in coursework and met NCAA continuing eligibility standards.
 
A graduate of Florida State University, O'Dell earned a Bachelor of Science in family and child sciences. She later completed her master's in educational leadership at the University of Central Florida.
