Sold Out School Record Crowd Of 8,000 Watches Volleyball Take On No. 1 Nebraska

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers volleyball battled top-ranked Nebraska in front of a sellout and school record crowd of 8,000 at Jersey Mike's Arena on Saturday night with the No. 1 Cornhuskers prevailing in three sets.

Nebraska's win streak continued to 14-straight with its 25-17, 25-15, 25-16 win over the Scarlet Knights as the Cornhuskers join Texas as the only remaining undefeated Division I women's volleyball squads. The Huskers were coming off a 25-6, 25-15, 25-13 win at defending national champion Penn State Friday night.

Rutgers, which picked up its first Big Ten win Friday evening in a four-set victory over Maryland, dropped to 10-6 overall and 1-3 in league action. The loss snapped RU's five-game home win streak.

STANDOUT STATS
  • Sophomore Aspen Maxwell tied Nebraska's Harper Murray as the match's leader in kills with 11.
  • Classmate Lily Bolen directed the attack behind 27 helpers and was just shy of a second-straight double-double with a team-high nine digs.
  • Fellow classmate Natalie Robinson hit .455, adding seven kills and joined Maxwell as the Scarlet Knight leader at the net with two blocks apiece.
  • Sophomore Alleigh Dutton logged eight digs and joined Maxwell and junior Zora Hardison with an ace.

KEY MOMENTS
  • SET 1 (17-25) | Nebraska built up a 15-8 advantage, but Rutgers saw kills from Aspen Maxwell and Natalie Robison along with an Alleigh Dutton ace cut into the Cornhuskers advantage and trail 15-11. The Cornhuskers countered with three straight, but swings from Maxwell and Visintine kept RU within five at 18-13 before pulling away with the opening frame. Maxwell led the attack with five of her 11 kills.
  • SET 2  (15-25) | While the Cornhuskers never trailed, Tara Garvey hit just inside the right corner of the court for RU to trail 10-9. Garvey swung again to pull the Scarlet Knights within one down 11-10, but from there Nebraska collected six-straight en route to the set win.  Maxwell dropped in four kills and an ace to lead the attack.
  • SET 3 (16-25) | This time, it was Maxwell with back-to-back swings to have RU within a point of the top-ranked team in the country. Her two straight kills saw the Scarlet Knights behind at 8-7, but the Cornhuskers used a 5-1 run to remain ahead and continued to grow their lead. Natalie Robinson hit .800 for the frame with four kills on five attacks.
