MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Scarlet Knights were in action on Thursday on the first day of the Minnesota Invite. On Thursday, RU competed in the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay and the 1-meter dive.
Rutgers set three RU top-ten times on the day. In the 200 IM prelims,
Ana Hazlehurst swam a 2:00.41, her Rutgers best time. That mark is the 3
rd fastest 200 IM swim all-time at RU.
In the 50 Free prelims,
Emilianna Gonzalez touched the wall in 22.54, 4
th all-time at RU. The freshman who earlier this year was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week, bettered her time from earlier this season when she made her first appearance on the top-10 in the 50 free.
Anna Vlachou swam a 22.67 in the 50 Free, which placed her seventh in school history. She reset her own mark from the morning, when she swam a 22.78 that was also a top-10 swim.
In the finals of the 200 Free Relay, the Rutgers' A group of
Emilianna Gonzalez,
Anna Vlachou,
Chiara Alberti and
Brooke Thompson placed fifth with a time of 1:31.52.
In the 200 Yard IM finals,
Ana Hazlehurst placed eighth with a time of 2:00.68. In the 50 freestyle,
Emilianna Gonzalez tied for sixth with a 22.62, with Vlachou placing 10
th. In the 400 Medley Relay, Rutgers A squad finished ninth in 3:40.70.
In the 1M diving, Rutgers' top finisher was
Sephora Ford, who placed third with a 288.75. Rutgers also had
Madilyn Varnum place in the top-8, finishing seventh at 267.40.
In the team rankings, Rutgers' had 106.5 points on the first day, which stands fourth behind No. 6 Cal, Minnesota and Harvard, and ahead of Denver and UNLV.
