Women's Basketball Setback at Washington

SEATTLE – The Rutgers women's basketball team (10-17, 2-14 B1G) was downed on the road at Washington (15-12, 6-9 B1G), 83-65, Thursday night.

Destiny Adams paced the Scarlet Knights with 19 points while JoJo Lacey (13) and Awa Sidibe (11) also reached double figures.

How it Happened

  • Washington got on the board first with consecutive threes to take an early 6-0 lead.
  • Destiny Adams had the answer though, netting back-to-back buckets of her own. Lisa Thompson hit two free throws also, tying the score 6-all with just over six minutes to play.
  • The Huskies powered back with an 8-0 run over a 1:29 span to regain the 14-6 advantage and force a Rutgers timeout at exactly the quarter's halfway point.
  • Adams put an end to the stretch with a jumper and Thompson added another pair of shots at the line to cut the difference to four points, 14-10.
  • Mya Petticord recorded a long jumper to further cut the lead and then matched a UW three to make the score 17-15 with under two minutes remaining.
  • Washington ended the opening 10 minutes on a 7-2 stretch to take the 24-17 edge into the second quarter.
  • Petticord hit her second shot from beyond the arc to kick things off in the second period, but the Huskies quickly came back with a deep ball of their own.
  • Thompson netted a jumper, but the opposition's offense kept coming with two more layups and a jumper to stay ahead, 33-22. RU used its second timeout with 6:44 to play.
  • UW cashed in on consecutive buckets before the Scarlet Knights went on their own 6-0 run to cut the lead, 38-28 and force a Washington timeout with 3:25 left in the first half.
  • After the stop, the Huskies scored four more points before a free throw from Adams disrupted the flow. The senior followed up with a jumper to end the period with three consecutive points. UW still went into the locker room with the 42-31 lead, however.
  • JoJo Lacey recorded a long two to kick off the second half and Awa Sidibe followed up with a three.
  • The teams went onto trade baskets before the 6:07 media timeout. UW remained in control, 51-38.
  • Out of the break, Adams netted yet another contested layup before two more scores from Washington. Another media timeout was called with 4:38 to go.
  • Once again, the teams traded scores until Rutgers called its third timeout at the 1:07 mark. Sidibe scored before the end of the period, but the Huskies remained on top, 62-46.
  • Each team got to the rim once before a UW timeout with 7:58 left in regulation.
  • The teams stayed pretty even through the next two minutes with Lacey and Sidibe recording buckets.
  • Lacey went onto a 9-2 run all by herself, hitting three deep balls over a 2:28 span to force a Huskies timeout with 3:29 left to play. She lessened the difference, 72-59.
  • Washington recorded three threes of their own in the final minutes of the game, to help outscore RU 11-6 in the final minutes, and come away with the 83-65 win.
