Dylan Harper Named Naismith Trophy National Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, NJ. – Rutgers freshman Dylan Harper was named Naismith National Player of the Week following two-straight wins over Washington and USC. Harper averaged 29.5 points, six assists, four steals, and 3.5 rebounds on an impressive week for the Scarlet Knights.

Harper scored a team-high 25 points and had nine assists and six steals in the 95-85 victory over USC at Jersey Mike's Arena on Sunday. Harper had a career-high six steals in the victory where Rutgers scored their most-ever points in a Big Ten Conference regulation game.

Harper became just the third freshman since 2005 to have at least 25 points, 9 assists, and six steals in a game (joining West Virginia's Jordan McCabe in 2019 and Cincinnati's Deonta Vaughn in 2006).

The Scarlet Knights defeated the Washington Huskies Wednesday night with another star performance from Harper. Harper had his third 30-point-plus performance of the season and scored 34 points, on 9-of-18 from the field and 12-of-14 from the free three line. Harper had five rebounds, three assists, and two steals to lead the 89-85 overtime victory. Harper made 12 free throws; his new career-high.

Harper's stat line (34 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block) has only been reached by a freshman seven other times since 2005, most recently in 2017. Three of the other seven games were done by players who ultimately drafted No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft (Markelle Fultz twice, Ben Simmons).

Harper is now third on the Rutgers true freshman scoring list with 485 points behind just Phil Sellers (506) and Mike Rosario (517).
