PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  The Rutgers-Maryland softball series was evened at 1-1 on Saturday afternoon as the Terps tripped up the Scarlet Knights with a 4-1 win.
Maryland 4, Rutgers 1
- Rutgers captured its lone run off junior Siera Hoekstra's second home run of the season.
- Senior Jillian Anderson was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
- Freshman Addie Osborne also captured a double.
- Ella Harrison went the distance allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out eight. Her streak of unearned runs came to a close in the seventh inning on the Terps' fourth and final run ending a streak of 48 consecutive innings. She dropped to 9-8 on the year.
- Maryland got onto the scoreboard with a three-run dinger in the second. Bailey Murphy led off with a single up the middle while Sammi Wood reached on a throwing error for two Terps to be aboard as Mazie MacFarlane homered to center field with two outs.
- Rutgers got its run in the fifth on a home run. Siera Hoekstra went over the wall for her second Scarlet Knight home run with a solo shot to right-center to lead off the bottom half of the inning as RU trailed 3-1.
- The Terps added an insurance run in the seventh with back-to-back hits with two outs. Mattie Benson doubled to left center and scored as Sydney Lewis followed up with a single to right for the final margin.
Sunday's series finale has been moved up to noon with the winner taking its first Big Ten series of the year. Â
