PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball dropped a 9-2 midweek nonconference contest with LIU on Wednesday afternoon at the RU Softball Complex.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Senior Georgia Ingle went 4-for-4 and sent in both Scarlet Knight runs.
• Redshirt sophomore Bailey Briggs was 1-for-2 with a run scored while senior Jillian Anderson added RU's other score.
• Hits also came from freshmen Riley Hwang, Kelsey Hoekstra and Addie Osborne.
• Freshman Dezaria Johnson dropped to 1-2 on the year in the start and threw two innings. Senior Laurelai DePew and freshman Kelsey Hoesktra also saw time inside the circle.

THE RUNDOWN

• The Sharks were on the early attack as they loaded the bases in the first inning en route to taking a 2-0 lead. Hannah Burnett put LIU onto the scoreboard with a based-loaded walk and Jaedyn Lincoln added an RBI single to center.
• Rutgers made it a 2-1 game in the bottom half. Jillian Anderson led off with a walk and scored on a Georgia Ingle single to center.
• LIU added two more runs the following inning. Lily Hinkle doubled to left and scored as Dallas Andrews came aboard on an infield miscue. Andrews gave the Sharks a 4-1 edge scoring on Alyssa Polemeni's triple to right.
• The Sharks tacked on four more runs in the third. Kaylee Clarkson and Lincoln put together back-to-back solo home runs to open up LIU's at-bat. Hinkle added an RBI single up the middle and then with bases loaded Polemeni walked in Priscilla Gillies for the 8-1 advantage. Rutgers got out of the inning making a double play at home and third.
• Ingle captured another RBI in the bottom half as RU trailed 8-2 at the end of three played. Bailey Briggs singled to center and with the next at-bat scored on Ingle's base hit to center.
• The visitors added their final run on the fifth on an RBI double from Polemeni to right center.

Rutgers softball welcomes Illinois for the final Big Ten home series. The updated series schedule with the Fighting Illinois is Friday, April 25 at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. and Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m.

Sunday, April 27 will be Senior Day with Jillian Anderson, Laurelai DePew, Georgia Ingle and LA Matthews honored following the game.
