PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse goalkeeper
Cardin Stoller was named the National Player of the Week by USA Lacrosse Magazine after backstopping Rutgers to the highest ranked win in program history over No. 2 Maryland.
Stoller excelled in the cage to lift RU over the Terps for the first time since 1980. The Owing Mills, Md. native made 14 saves and had four ground balls and a caused turnover. Additionally, he scored a goal himself in the fourth quarter to ice the game. Stoller's save percentage of 70% was his best this season versus a ranked team this season. He led Maryland to a season-low in goals, 5.5 goals below their season average, marking just the second time the Terps were held to six or fewer goals in a Big Ten regular season game since joining the league in 2015.
The six goals allowed was the fewest goals allowed by RU in a Big Ten game since a 14-6 win over Ohio State in 2019. It was tied for the lowest goal total against while playing a ranked team for RU since 2017 – only done four times in that span in a total of 59 games versus ranked teams. The six goals allowed was the lowest total goals against in a conference game this season (six goals or less has only happened in a Big Ten regular season game 3 other times over the past three seasons).
Stoller was additionally recognized as The Lacrosse Network Player of the Week and the LaxReference "Brick Wall of the Week".
Stoller and the No. 18 Scarlet Knights are back in action this weekend. RU hosts No. 14 Michigan on Sunday at 12 pm. The game, nationally televised on Big Ten Network, will be Senior Day and Alumni Appreciation Day.
