PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse goalkeeper
Cardin Stoller was named the ECAC's Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, Stoller was named to the All-ECAC Team, as was his teammate, junior long-stick midfielder
Ryan Splaine.
Stoller completed a well awarded season where he was an All-American from all three publications and a First Team All-Big Ten pick. The native of Owing Mills, Md. played 942 minutes in the cage with 182 saves, including 12 games of double-digit saves and five times stopping 14 or more shots and averaging 11.25 saves per game.. The redshirt sophomore posted a goals-against-average of 8.85, sixth best in the nation. He was also 11
th with a save percentage of 56.4%. Stoller was also the national Player of the Week following his performance against No. 2 Maryland, leading RU to an 8-6 victory with 14 saves, and scoring a goal. On the season, he also had 36 ground balls and nine caused turnovers, along with two goals.
Splaine picked up the honors from the ECAC in a season that also saw him named an All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine and Second Team All-Big Ten. A Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and USILA Team of the Week selection, the Rockville, Md. native had 49 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. He was 10
th in the Big Ten in ground balls per game and caused turnovers per game. Also, the junior scored three goals.
