Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Blanks Buckeyes

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's soccer (6-2-1, 2-1 B1G) dominated Ohio State (4-4, 1-1 B1G), 2-0, to remain 4-0 at home.  

After a slow opening half, Joshua Jerome found the back of the net for the first goal of his career from the top of the box. Jack Andrus sent the ball in and Jerome was able to get a solid strike off a volley from Matty Lynch.  

Then in 72nd minute, Schelb took a pass from Timo Jansen in stride to beat the Ohio State defense and bury a right-footed strike into the net.  

Goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton had one of his best games of the season so far, recording eight saves for his third shutout of the season. He also earned his 200th career save against the Buckeyes.

Game Notes    

  • The score from Schelb marks his seventh of the season. He continues to pace RU in goals, points (15), shots (36) and shots on goal (16).  
  • Jerome's goal is the first of his collegiate career. Andrus and Lynch also registered their first points of their respective careers with assists on the score.  
  • 16 of RU's 18 goals this season have come from newcomers. Devon Stopek and Nick Collins are the lone returners to net a goal so far.  
  • Ciaran Dalton made a season-high eight saves in net on Friday to move up to seventh on the all-time career saves list with 202 stops.  
  • Dalton has now come up with three shutouts in 2025, a season-high throughout his career.  
  • Dalton is the only Scarlet Knights to play all 90 minutes of all eight matches this campaign.  
  • RU remains 4-0 at home, with victories over Providence (1-0), Penn State (1-0) and FDU (3-2) and now Ohio State (2-0).  
  • The clean sheet win over OSU marks the Scarlet Knights's first since 2022.  

Looking Ahead     

Rutgers will play its third consecutive home game against Monmouth on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
