No. 16 Wrestling Loses at No. 1 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 16 Rutgers wrestling (6-3, 0-1) lost at No. 1 Penn State (7-0, 1-0), 46-0, on Saturday in its Big Ten Conference dual opener at Rec Hall.
With several starters out, four true freshmen – Tahir Parkins (141), Devon Magro (149), Easton Doster (157) and Jordan Chapman (174) – competed against the top-ranked Nittany Lions. Eight out of 10 bouts for RU were wrestled by redshirt sophomores or younger, with Chapman and Doster making their collegiate dual debuts.
Despite the final score, RU saw tough wrestling from several of its freshmen in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,457 fans at Rec Hall. Ryan Ford (165) landed the first takedown in his matchup with reigning national champion Mitchell Mesenbrink, Parkins worked a takedown in the third period against 2025 NCAA All-American Braeden Davis, and Magro added a reversal and had an impressive ride of No. 1 Shayne Van Ness. No. 29 Ayden Smith (125) held No. 2 Luke Lilledahl to a decision.
