
Swimming and Diving Opens Big Ten Championships Wednesday

MINNEAPOLIS – The Rutgers swimming and diving team opened action at the Big Ten Championships on Wednesday night. The Scarlet Knights competed in the 200 Medley Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay and the exhibition team diving event.
200 Medley Relay – 1:39.36
The first event of the night was the 200 medley relay, which RU swam in 1:39.36. Goksu Dogan, Sofia Bartoloni, Anna Vlachou and Emilianna Gonzalez took the pool for RU, who came in 13th. The Scarlet Knights beat their seed time of 1:39.81, set in their last dual meet competition of the year against Nebraska.
800 Freestyle Relay - 7:24.57
The session's second and final relay was the 800 freestyle relay, which RU swam in 7:24.57. The Scarlet Knights beat their seed time of 7:26.78 in the event. Competing for RU were Ana Hazlehurst, Chiara Alberti, Casey Zentz and Brooke Thompson. Hazelhurst swam the leadoff leg of 200 Free in 1:48.73, which would be the 10the fastest 200 free time in program history.
Exhibition Team Diving Event – 171.90
Rutgers utilized a trio of Amelia Scott, Madilyn Varnum and Gianna Lawrence to compete in the exhibition event. Scott's first dive was the top scoring dive of that round.
Rutgers accumulated 54 team points through the first two events. The Scarlet Knights continue Big Ten championship competition on Thursday. The action picks back up at 11 a.m. Eastern Time with prelims. RU competes in the 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, as well as the 1-Meter Diving, with trials for diving beginning at 1 p.m.
