
Women's Basketball Downed at No. 2/2 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – Rutgers women's basketball team (9-14, 1-11 B1G) was downed by No. 2/2 UCLA (22-1, 12-0 B1G), 86-46, on Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion.
Lauryn Swann (14) and Zachara Perkins (13) paced the Scarlet Knights in scoring and from beyond the arc with three deep shots each.
How it Happened
- Faith Blackstone started the game with a three-pointer before a pair of buckets gave UCLA the 4-3 lead. The Bruins added eight more points before Rutgers called its first timeout at the 6:05 mark.
- The opponent recorded seven points before a deep shot from Lauryn Swann.
- UCLA ended the first quarter with another 7-0 run to take the 26-6 edge into the second quarter.
- The Bruins stared off the next 10 minutes with a layup and a free throw, but Zachara Perkins netted a three to get the Scarlet Knights on the board. Blackstone followed up with a contested layup.
- UCLA hit another layup, but Kaylah Ivey recorded RU's second three of the quarter to force a timeout from the home team with 6:05 on the clock, 31-14.
- Antonia Bates kept it going after the timeout with a fast break layup. Rutgers was productive on the defensive end, holding UCLA scoreless for over three minutes.
- The Bruins got back on the board with a layup at 3:13, but Perkins matched the points just a few seconds later.
- The opposition ended the half on a 7-1 stretch to take the 40-19 advantage into halftime.
- Perkins struck first in the third quarter, but UCLA came back with a three-point play and layup before RU's second timeout at 8:15, 45-21.
- The Bruins scored seven unanswered points before a stepback three-pointer from Swann. The opponent answered with a shot from beyond the arc before the 4:56 media timeout to stay in front, 55-24.
- The opponent netted four points in a row, but Swann once again broke up the momentum with her third deep shot of the night.
- UCLA ended the third quarter with 10 consecutive points to keep the 68-27 edge.
- The Scarlet Knights hit back-to-back buckets, with a three from Perkins and a jumper from Swann, to start the final 10 minutes.
- The Bruins came back with four points in a row before the teams traded baskets. The stretch included a three-pointer from Kennedy Brandt.
- The opponent recorded four more points while Precious Gem Wheeler added a second chance put up, before the 4:43 media timeout to stay on top, 80-39.
- The teams once again traded buckets through the final minutes of the contest as UCLA came out with the 86-46 victory.
Knights Notes
- Lauryn Swann led Rutgers with 14 points, her second outing this season pacing the squad.
- Swann hit three three-pointers against UCLA. She has cashed in on multiple deep shots in five games this season.
- Zachara Perkins netted 13 points on Wednesday night. She has hit double figures in all three games back since her three-game hiatus and 13 outings overall.
- Perkins recorded three deep shots versus the Bruins to match her career high. She has hit multiple three-pointers five times this slate.
- Antonia Bates and Precious Gem Wheeler paced RU with four rebounds apiece. Bates has led Rutgers on the boards eight times this campaign, including the last four games.
- Kaylah Ivey ended the day with four assists. She has recorded three or more helpers 15 times this slate.
- Rutgers won the fourth quarter, 19-18.
