Diving Hosts Platform Invitational
Feb 06 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Event Starts at 11 AM Saturday
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers diving squad is in action this Saturday for a diving-only competition at the Rutgers Aquatics Center. RU hosts the Rutgers Platform Invitational on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. Scores will be available at DiveMeets.com.
The competition will be a singular event of platform diving. Rutgers will be the host site, with both men and women set to compete. There are 12 divers entered on the women's side, with six Scarlet Knights registered, as Sephora Ford, Katerina Hoffman, Gianna Lawrence, Amelia Scott, Bailee Sturgill and Madilyn Varnum are set to compete. They are set to match up against divers from Princeton (Vivian Brennan, Liv Davidson, Charlotte Norman and Maggie Squire) as well as UMass (Danielle Guerin and Khrystyna Yaremyn).
The Scarlet Knights boast a strong diving program, with the team placing eighth nationally in the most recent US PDCA Coaches Poll, which was released on December 22. In the US PDCA power rankings, through midseason meets, Rutgers is fourth nationally and third in the Big Ten in team dual meet power rankings. The Scarlet Knights are also currently atop the team champ power rankings.
In the platform dive, which RU is set to compete in this weekend, Sephora Ford currently ranks third nationally, and first among Big Ten divers, in the individual platform power rankings. Ford has two event victories in the Platform dive this year, at the Navy and Minnesota Invitationals. She scored a 317.7 at Navy, which ranks as the second-best score all-time in Rutgers' program history. Bailee Sturgill (third, 313.45), Katerina Hoffman (eighth, 273.65) and Amelia Scott (10th 238.80) also see their career top score in the platform dive ranking among the program's best all-time.
This will be the final competition for RU before the Big Ten Championships. This year's conference championships will be held at the University of Minnesota from Feb. 18-21.
