
Softball With Mid-Week Sweep At Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Rutgers softball swept a road afternoon doubleheader with Saint Peter's on Tuesday afternoon, taking a 16-8 victory in game one behind three home runs, including a grand slam from Riley Hwang, and a 12-3 run-rule win led by four RBIs and the third home run of the year from Sam Rohwer.
The two wins improved RU to 13-10 overall.
Game 1: Rutgers 16, Saint Peter's 8

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Sophomores Riley Hwang and Kelsey Hoekstra and freshman Rachel Millan all powered the Scarlet Knights with home run. Hwang belted RU's second grand slam of the year and her third of the year. Hoekstra chimed in with her second long ball of the year, while Millan swung for her first collegiate ball over the wall.
- Hwang hit 4-for-5 with six RBIs, a grand slam, two doubles and four runs scored.
- Milan finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Hoekstra went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
- Altogether, eight different Scarlet Knights batted a run in and five scored on two or more occasions.
- Right-hander Brooke Shifflett improved to 5-3 overall, totaling 4.2 innings in the circle. The junior gave up two earned runs on nine hits while striking out six.

- Rutgers scored three runs to open and held a 10-0 lead after two and a half innings of play.
- The Scarlet Knights loaded the bases in the top half of the first, resulting in a Kelsey Hoekstra RBI single and a sac fly from Addie Osborne.
- Back-to-back home runs gave RU five runs in the second. Riley Hwang delivered a grand slam, followed by a solo shot from Hoekstra to extend the Scarlet Knight advantage to 8-0.
- Hwang followed up her grand slam with a bases-loaded two-run double in the third for the 10-0 lead.
- Saint Peter's got onto the scoreboard in the bottom half of the third. An infield miscue allowed the inning to continue and two unearned runs to plate on a double by Carlee Charles.
- RU plated two more in the fourth. Back-to-back doubles allowed Rachel Millan to score on Etta Garofalo's extra base hit and score on Charleigh Schuettler's single to follow.
- With the Scarlet Knights up 12-2, the Peacocks made a dent in their deficit in the bottom half. Six runs on seven hits cut RU's lead to 12-8. Scoring kicked off with runners on the corners and Paige Seemon recording an RBI double. Saint Peter's rattled off four consecutive RBI singles. A Brooke Shifflett strikeout stopped the outpouring, but the bases remained loaded for a Steph Bendzlowicz RBI base hit.
- Hwang registered her second double of the game and scored on Makenna Coleman's single up the middle in the sixth to put RU ahead 15-8.
- A sac fly from Stephanie Kraska with the bases loaded in the seventh scored Bailey Briggs for the game's final margin.

- Riley Hwang's six RBIs were the most by a Scarlet Knight since Rebecca Halt's six RBIs at Penn State back on April 21, 2017.
- Rutgers belted back-to-back home runs for the first time since Morgan Smith and Payton Lincavage against Wisconsin on April 7, 2024, in a 4-1 series finale victory.
- The Scarlet Knights tied their season-high with three home runs. RU also had a trio of home runs in a 10-7 win over FGCU on Feb. 27.

- Sophomores Sam Rohwer and Riley Hwang went yard in game two. Hwang made it back-to-back games with a dinger while Rohwer posted her fourth of the year.
- Rohwer finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
- Freshman Charleigh Schuettler went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Hwang and redshirt junior Bailey Briggs were responsible for two RBIs each as well.
- Sophomore Kassandra Gewecke upped her mark to 5-5 on the year. She allowed two earned runs on six hits while recording five strikeouts in four innings of work. Freshman Marley Caldwell pitched the fifth, fanning the three batters she faced.

- In game two, Rutgers got onto the scoreboard in the second inning with a trio of runs and never looked back. Charleigh Schuettler pushed across a pair of runs on a double and stole home for RU's early edge.
- Saint Peter's Danni Forrester led off the second inning with a single and scored off Angela Tremacro's base hit.
- The Peacocks struck again with a run in the third after Kiana Matsuda reached on an infield single and scored off an infield error.
- The Scarlet Knights added four runs in the fourth. Baileigh Burtis reached on an error at short and scored on Hailey Stripling's double down the right field line. Sam Rohwer continued with a home run ball over the wall in right, followed two batters later by a solo shot from Riley Hwang to center to go up 7-2.
- Saint Peter's dropped in another run in the bottom half of the fourth with Forrester leading off with a solo home run.
- The fifth, however, saw RU generate five runs to capture the run-rule win. Rohwer delivered a base-loaded RBI single and Bailey Briggs followed with a two-run double. Briggs made her way to third on an outfield miscue and scored on a Hwang ground out for the eventual 12-3 victory.
