
Katerina Hoffman Claims 3 Meter Title, Sturgill Fourth at NCAA Zones

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For the second straight day, the Rutgers' diving duo of Katerina Hoffman and Bailee Sturgill excelled at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. In the 3-Meter event, Katerina Hoffman took first place, while Bailee Sturgill placed fourth, with both qualifying for NCAA Championships in the event.
Hoffman scored a 649.65 overall in the combined scoring. She scored a 316.95 in finals to secure first place. It was her second straight day winning the zone title, after previously topping the 1-meter leaderboard on Monday.
Sturgill scored a 605.60 overall to finish in fourth place, her second straight day with a top-four finish at Zone Diving. She scored a 307.95 in finals to secure her NCAA placement.
Rutgers sent four divers to finals after their placements in preliminaries. After prelims, Katerina Hoffman had the top score with a 332.70. Bailee Sturgill was fourth with a 297.65. Gianna Lawrence was sixth at 293.15 and Sephora Ford was 10th at 283.75.
In the finals, Ford just missed out on NCAA qualification. With Zone A being allocated five spots to advance, she placed seventh with a 596.05 overall (312.30 in finals). Gianna Lawrence placed 19th overall with a score of 505.30.
The duo of Hoffman and Sturgill will now be guaranteed to both compete at least in two days of the NCAA Championships. The three-meter diving event will be held on Friday, March 20.
There is one more day of competition remaining at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. Rutgers will compete on Wednesday in the Platform Diving. 19 divers are set to compete in the Platform. Four of them are Scarlet Knights: Sephora Ford, Katerina Hoffman, Bailee Sturgill and Gianna Lawrence. Prelims start at 11 a.m., followed by finals.
