
Tennis Drops Decision at No. 50 Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Rutgers tennis team (6-6, 0-3 B1G) fell to No. 50 Maryland (10-2, 2-1 B1G), 4-1, on the road Saturday afternoon.
"This was a good, competitive college match" head coach Hilary Ritchie said. "Everyone fought hard. We need to capitalize on big points against Big Ten opponents. The players are still confident in our ability to keep improving."
Doubles
The Scarlet Knights fought hard, but did not come away with the doubles point.
The pair of Karina Jumazhanova and Zeynep Ilker won their match on the second doubles court by a strong margin, 6-3.
Stella Schmitz and Naomi Karki fought hard on the final court, trading all six points back and fourth with the Terrapins. The duo ultimately fell in the tie break though, 7-6 (4).
Singles
Maryland picked up three singles wins to secure the 4-1 victory.
After working hard in doubles, Schmitz continued her momentum with her first conference win on the fourth court in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Zuzanna Frankowska and Savannah Cohen both won sets as well before their matches went unfinished.
