Amanda (Visco) Jelinsky: Rutgers Through and Through
May 11 | Women's Soccer
There wasn't much that Amanda Visco didn't accomplish in her playing career at Rutgers. A star back on the women's soccer team, Visco collected countless accolades on and off the pitch. She was a team captain, an All-Big Ten selection as a defender, a Scholar All-Region First Team honoree, three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, inductee into Chi Alpha Sigma (National College Athlete Honor Society) and Big Ten All-Freshman selection in 2016.
After a professional soccer career that saw her play for hometown Gotham FC in the NWSL and internationally in Spain, Portugal and Cyprus, she returned to the Banks to embark in an entirely new professional career.
Now going by her married name, Jelinsky is the assistant director, ticket services for Rutgers Athletics. She oversees all ticket operations for women's basketball (which recently set a record for season tickets sold) and volleyball. Additinally, Jelinsky served on a panel with other leaders in Rutgers Athletics for the department's National Girls and Women in Sports Networking Event.
Recently, Jelinsky took time to discuss her career at Rutgers as both a student-athlete and athletic department staff member.
What made you decide to stay home and attend Rutgers in the first place?
Committing to Rutgers University was one of the easiest and best decisions I ever made. From the moment I stepped onto campus, it felt like home. Being close to my family and friends was a major factor in my decision, and I wanted them to have the opportunity to watch me play. Beyond the strong competitiveness of Rutgers soccer in the Big Ten, I also knew that academically, Rutgers would prepare me for success long after graduation.
What are some of your favorite memories as a player for Rutgers?
There are so many memories that come to mind- whether it was the small inside jokes in the locker room, the long travel days, funny moments in the weight room, or our long runs in the conference tournament. However, my all-time favorite was probably our Senior Day game. Having my immediate and extended family, along with close friends, travel to the game to celebrate that moment with me made it incredibly special and unforgettable.
What are some of your favorite memories as a student?
Some of my favorite memories as a student came from simply spending time with my teammates outside of training. Whether it was during study hall, grabbing meals in the dining hall, or supporting our classmates in other sports, the moments I cherished most were always the ones spent together. Those relationships became some of the most meaningful parts of my college experience, and we are all still close to this day.
What were your initial goals coming out of college? How did those evolve?
After college, I knew I wanted to pursue my soccer career professionally. I had the opportunity to play overseas in top divisions in Spain, Cyprus (Champions League) and Portugal before I came home to obtain a short-term contact with Gotham FC in the NWSL. When my playing career came to an end, I knew I wanted to transition into an environment that aligned with my values and provided opportunities for growth and advancement in my professional career.
How did you transition into the corporate world after your playing career?
The transition into the corporate world after playing soccer was definitely a challenge. Adjusting to a new lifestyle and routine took time, but being adaptable helped make that transition smoother. The work ethic, discipline and time management skills I developed as a student-athlete at Rutgers played a huge role in helping me succeed and feel more confident stepping into the corporate world.
What brought you to ticket operations at Rutgers?
I always knew I wanted to work on the operations side of sports once my playing career came to an end. I developed a deep appreciation for all the work that goes into making game days such a special experience for both athletes and fans. Because my experience here was so meaningful, I wanted the opportunity to give that same experience back to future and current student-athletes and help create memorable moments for them.
How did your experiences both on and off the field prepare you for your job?
The work ethic you develop as a student-athlete doesn't disappear when you transition into the professional world; it carries over into the workplace. Learning how to perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment is a major advantage. Balancing the demands of my sport with academics taught me strong time management skills, discipline and accountability – all of which have been essential in my career.
Explain your current role at Rutgers?
As Assistant Director of Ticket Operations at Rutgers, I serve as the primary liaison for ticket operations for Rutgers Women's Basketball and Women's Volleyball. I oversee all aspects of ticket fulfillment, processing and customer service through the Paciolan ticketing platform. I also contribute to the development of ticket packages and promotions aimed at driving revenue and enhancing the fan experience. In addition, I serve as the main point of contact for Women's Basketball, Women's Volleyball, visiting teams, high school coaches and Olympic sport recruits.
I am a proud alum and grateful to be back working at Rutgers!
