Semifinals To Race Friday Afternoon Due To Inclement Weather On Saturday
GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The #10 Rutgers women's rowing Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 boats advanced to the A/B semifinals of the 2026 NCAA Championships on Lake Lanier on Friday morning. RU's Second Varsity 8 will compete in the C/D semifinals.
Due to impending inclement weather on Saturday, the semifinals will start on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
To qualify for the A/B semifinals, boats must finish in the top three of their opening heat. The remaining boats advance to the C/D semifinals.
The Varsity 8 took third in its opening heat. Princeton and Yale got a jump on the lead at the start, with Rutgers and Miami battling for third, with RU maintaining a slight edge through the halfway point. The Scarlet Knights, however, were able to break away from the Hurricanes and cross nearly a length ahead to advance to the A/B semifinals for a second straight season.
The Second Varsity 8 made its way to the C/D finals after taking fourth in the heats. It was three Big Ten boats in the top four of the final 2V8 heats. Ivy League champion Princeton and Big Ten champion Washington led the pack while Rutgers and Michigan battled for third. The Scarlet Knights were edged out of the top semifinal by 2.598 seconds.
The Varsity 4 also advanced to the A/B semifinals for a second-straight season with a runner-up performance in its heat. Tennessee, ranked #1 in the CRCA Poll entering the championships, and Rutgers dominated the heat with the Lady Vols crossing first in 6:45.540 and the Scarlet Knights 3.778 seconds behind with over a nine-second margin of fellow A/B semifinal qualifier Syracuse.
