#12 Women's Rowing Takes 10 of 12 Races At Women's Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The #12 Rutgers women's rowing team won 10 of its 12 races, including grand final victories for the First Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4, Third Varsity 4, Third Varsity 8 and Fourth Varsity 8 on Sunday at the Women's Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond.
The Scarlet Knights finished in third place in the team standings.
Five of Rutgers' boats advanced from its morning heats to grand finals, with the Varsity 4 & Second Varsity 4 winning their races by over 10 seconds.
The Second Varsity 4 of Abigail Franks, Sofia Ulinski, Bridget Moore, Lowri Cawdell and coxswain Elizabeth Steron claimed the top spot in the prelims, finishing ahead of #23 Dartmouth by 11.451 seconds, while the Varsity 4 of Audrey White, Mary Ciardiello, Juliann Northrop, Hannah Roetger and coxswain Ashley Lo built up a 10.146 margin of victory over the runner-up #23 Big Green in its first-place performance.
Also in the morning prelims, the Varsity 8 finished ahead of #21 Harvard-Radcliffe and the Second Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 topped #23 Dartmouth in their respective heats.
Racing the afternoon opened with the Third Varsity 4 as Rutgers' B boat dominated the field. Karen Kirkorian, Katie Balint, Seher Talukdar and coxswain Annika Noel outrowed teammates from the A boat by 16.621 seconds and were also in front of Cornell, #23 Dartmouth, Holy Cross and #21 Harvard-Radcliffe.
The Fourth Varsity 8 also finished with a commanding lead in its victory. Jacqueline Cruickshank, Mia Bulmer, Charlotte Thomas, Alexandra Nozhenko, Samantha McKinney, Star Henry, Nina Manglani, Gracey Estepp and coxswain Caitlin Chua crossed the finish line 15.227 seconds better than runner-up Northeastern.
The Second Varsity 4 of Abigail Franks, Sofia Ulinski, Bridget Moore, Lowri Cawdell and coxswain Elizabeth Steron picked up its grand final victory, besting #23 Dartmouth with an 8.134-second margin of victory and ahead of third-place Columbia and fourth-place #9 Brown.
The First Varsity 4 with Audrey White, Mary Ciardiello, Juliann Northrop, Hannah Roetger, and coxswain Ashley Lo finished ahead of two ranked programs to come in 6.240 seconds ahead of #23 Dartmouth and third-place #9 Brown.
The Third Varsity 8 also claimed a grand final victory as Natalie Hammond, Satiana Alvarez, Krissy Xavier, Holly Stoker, Isabel Corbett, Anna Eizhvertin, Nina Rozek, Kelsey Lavelle and coxswain Charlotte Weaver clocked in 5.302 seconds ahead of second-place #23 Dartmouth and also prevailed over #21 Harvard-Radcliffe.
Rounding out the afternoon grand final appearances were the Second Varsity 8 with a runner-up performance and the Varsity 8 placing sixth. Louise Dinard, Izzy Johnson, Madeline Galesi, Fallon DeWitt, Elizabeth Enriquez, Kathryn Koleto, Jazmine Ingall and coxswain Megan Pruitt, who comprised the Second Varsity 8, had a close finish with #9 Brown and were narrowly edged by 1.122 seconds.
