
#12 Women's Rowing To Send All Seven Boats To B1G Grand Finals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind . – The Big Ten Women's Rowing Championship made a major scheduling change due to impending weather, but #12 Rutgers quickly adjusted and won all its heats on Friday evening to send all seven of its boats to the grand final on Sunday.
With heat racing originally scheduled to begin Saturday morning, officials made the call at approximately 2 p.m. to push up competition to 6 p.m. as all 14 heats were able to make it off before the sun started setting below the horizon at Eagle Creek Reservoir.
RU's Second Varsity 4, Third Varsity 4 and Third Varsity 8 all captured the fastest times on the evening in their respective races with the Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Second Varsity 8 and Fourth Varsity 8 all claiming first in their respective heats. The Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4 and Fourth Varsity 8 each had 10+ second margins of victory in their heats. The top three boats from each heat advanced to the grand final.
The Varsity 8 claimed first with a four-stroke lead on #16 Ohio State in the second heat of the event. The boat of Chiara Saccomando, Elena Moran, Beatrice Colclough, Lily Wood, Fallon DeWitt, Elizabeth Enriquez, Mary Ciardiello, Louise Dinard, and coxswain Meghan Mangan were 3.30 seconds ahead of #16 Ohio State at the 1,000-meter mark, with Indiana and Minnesota closely trailing. By the finish line, the Scarlet Knights would be in front by 5.356 seconds. Additionally, RU was .438 seconds behind #4 Washington's time in the first heat. The Scarlet Knights, Huskies and Buckeyes will join #17 Michigan, #18 UCLA and Indiana at the start line in the grand final on Sunday.
The Second Varsity 8 took first by a boat length in its heat. Madeline Baird, Olivia Elliott, Liepa Kazlas, Madeline Galesi, Kathryn Koleto, Femke Dewitt, Madison Donnelly. Jazmine Ingall and coxswain Megan Pruitt bested #17 Michigan by 3.970 seconds as the Scarlet Knights also outrowed #18 UCLA by nearly 18 seconds. The Scarlet Knights, who crossed in 7:06.620, were only .116 seconds behind Washington's heat one finish of 7:06.514. Together they will race in the grand final with #16 Ohio State, #17 Ohio State, USC and Iowa.
The Third Varsity 8 also posted the top time in its event. RU and #17 Michigan kept pace with one another, with the Scarlet Knights crossing the 1,000-meter mark with a .74-second advantage. Natalie Hammond, Satiana Alvarez, Krissy Xavier, Holly Stoker, Isabel Corbett, Anna Eizhvertin, Nina Rozek, Kelsey Lavelle, and coxswain Charlotte Weaver grew RU's lead to nearly three seats, crossing ahead of the Wolverines by 1.416 seconds. RU rowed to a time of 7:06.630, clocking in 3.308 seconds faster in its heat than #4 Washington, who won the opening heat in 7:41.252. Also qualifying for the grand final were #18 UCLA, #16 Ohio State and Indiana.
The Fourth Varsity 8 dominated the opening race of the evening, moving into open water early and holding a 20.654-second advantage on runner-up #18 UCLA. Samantha Bianco, Karen Kirkorian, Devin Sutch, Seher Talukdar, Katie Balint, Madeline Crumley, Nina Manglani, Lindsay Gledhill and coxswain Annika Noel will join #4 Washington, #17 Michigan and Ohio State from heat 1, along with UCLA and Minnesota from their heat in Sunday's final.
The Varsity 4 won its heat with a wide margin, finishing in front of #17 Michigan with an 11.267 margin of victory and nearly 20 seconds ahead of #16 UCLA. The boat of Abigail Franks, Hannah Roetger, Juliann Northrop, Eda Erkan and coxswain Ashley Lo advanced to the grand final to meet up with the #4 Washington, #16 Ohio State and Indiana from the opening heat alongside the Wolverines and Bruins.
The Second Varsity 4 collected the top time between the two heats as the Scarlet Knights crossed with a time of 7:40.499 to win heat two, while #4 Washington took the opening heat in a time of 7:43.553. Audrey White, Izzy Johnson, Emily Szopa, Sofia Ulinski and coxswain Elizabeth Steron held almost a 10-second advantage at the halfway point and won the heat with a 14.641 margin over #17 Michigan and topped #17 Ohio State by 17.037 seconds.
The final race of the evening saw another open water win with the Third Varsity 4 also collecting the top time across the 10 boats in the two-heat field. Shea Callahan, Lowri Cawdell, Bridget Moore, Sierra Smith, and coxswain Lindsey Eattock were in the lead by nearly five seconds at the 1,000-meter mark and claimed first by nearly eight seconds on #17 Michigan and 12.150 seconds on #16 Ohio State, the heat's other grand final qualifiers. Rutgers clocked in at 7:43.207 while #4 Washington came out on top in the first heat in 7:43.925. Also reaching the grand final were #18 UCLA and Minnesota.
