Scarlet Knights Finish Second Overall Totaling One Gold And Six Silver Medals
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Rutgers' Third Varsity 8 claimed a Big Ten title as the #12 Scarlet Knights finished second in the team standings for the second straight year at the 2026 Big Ten Championships at Eagle Creek Reservoir on Sunday morning.
Rutgers took gold in the final race of the morning in the Third Varsity, keeping Big Ten Champion Washington from sweeping. Natalie Hammond, Satiana Alvarez, Krissy Xavier, Holly Stoker, Isabel Corbett. Anna Eizhvertin, Nina Rozek, Kelsey Lavelle and coxswain Charlotte Weaver took the lead early and stayed in front with a 3.403-second margin of victory.
The Third Varsity 8's title marked RU's first Big Ten Championship in the event and fourth boat to win gold at the championships, joining the Fourth Varsity 8 in 2022 and the Third Varsity 4 in 2023 and 2024.
The Scarlet Knights finished in second place with 322 points with silver in the six other races. Washington took the title with 350 points and Ohio State took third with 262 points.
The Fourth Varsity 8 opened the day with the first silver. Samantha Bianco, Karen Kirkorian, Devin Sutch, Seher Talukdar, Katherine Balint, Madeline Crumley, Nina Manglani, Lindsay Gledhill and coxswain Annika Noel kept pace with #4 Washington and crossed 2.713 seconds behind for second place.
The Varsity 8, which was moved up to the second event of the day to ensure the best possible conditions, came down to Rutgers and Washington for the second straight year. Chiara Saccomando, Elena Moran, Beatrice Colclough, Lily Wood, Fallon Dewitt, Elizabeth Enriquez, Mary Ciardiello, Louise Dinard and coxswain Meghan Mangan were edged by the Huskies by 3.243 seconds to take silver for the second year in a row.
The Second Varsity 8 were also runners-up to Washington, claiming silver for the third-straight season. Madeline Baird, Olivia Elliott, Liepa Kazlas, Madeline Galesi, Kathryn Koleto, Femke Dewitt, Madison Donnelly, Jazmine Ingall, and coxswain Megan Pruitt finished 5.652 seconds behind the Huskies and a boat length ahead of third-place Michigan.
The First Varsity 4 was bow ball to bow ball between Rutgers and Washington for the first half of the race, but the Scarlet Knights would be the runners-up, taking silver for a third straight season. Abigail Franks, Hannah Roetger, Juliann Northrop, Eda Erkan, and coxswain Ashley Lo crossed 4.886 seconds behind the Huskies and topped third-place Ohio State by over eight seconds.
The Second Varsity 4 saw Washington, Rutgers and Ohio State bow to stern across to open and stay in order at the finish line. Audrey White, Isabel Johnson, Emily Szopa, Sofia Ulinski and coxswain Elizabeth Steron rowed the Scarlet Knights to silver for the second straight year with nearly eight seconds between all three boats.
Rutgers was able to break away from UCLA midway through the Third Varsity 4 for silver. Washington captured the title, but it was the Scarlet Knights and Bruins neck and neck for the first 1,000 meters before Shea Callahan, Lowri Cawdell, Bridget Moore, Sierra Smith and coxswain Lindsey Eattock were able to power ahead by 7.344 seconds at the finish.
Five Scarlet Knights earned All-Big Ten Honors. First Team All-Big Ten went to Chiara Saccomando, Lily Wood and Elena Moran. Wood picked up third team honors for the third-straight year while Saccomando landed on her second all-conference team after earning second team last season. All-Big Ten Second Team honors went to Fallon DeWitt and Beatrice Colclough.
Shea Callahan was named the Rutgers recipient of the annual Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
The 2026 NCAA Division I Rowing Championship selections will be announced on Tuesday, May 19 at 5 p.m. The NCAA Championships will take place May 29-31 at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia.
