Scarlet Knights Divers Led by Bronze Medal from Sturgill at USA Diving Summer Nationals

Bailee Sturgill Places Third in Synchronized 3M
MORGANTOWN, W.V. – Rutgers had three Scarlet Knights in an elite summer meet as Bailee Sturgill, Gianna Lawrence and Madilyn Varnum all competed at the USA Diving Summer Nationals. RU was led in the competition by a third place finish by Bailee Sturgill.
Sturgill wrapped the RU action on Tuesday as she competed on Tuesday in the Synchronized 3M diving portion with her partner Lily Witte. The duo earned the bronze medal placement with a score of 523.44. The duo had also stood third after prelims with a score of 258.54.
Varnum advanced through qualifying into the meet, and her and Lawrence both competed in the 1M and 3M dives. Both placed in the top-25 in each event, including both in the top-20 of the 1M board.
Sturgill and Varnum each enter their junior seasons 'On the Banks', while Lawrence is a rising sophomore. Sturgill was a First Team Scholar All-American last season after being an NCAA Qualifier on 1M, 3M and Platform, finishing top-four in all three boards at NCAA Zones. A Big Ten podium finisher on the 1M Dive (seventh), she also earned a Big Ten Diver of the Week accolade during last season. She also holds a wealth of experience competing internationally for USA Diving.
