WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a late rally, Rutgers men's soccer (0-1-1) fell to No. 5 Georgetown (1-0-1), 2-1, on Sunday night.

The Hoyas came out strong in the opening half, finding the back of the net in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Scarlet Knights flipped the momentum coming out of halftime, controlling possession and stringing together several quality scoring opportunities. However, Rutgers couldn't find the equalizer, and Georgetown took advantage of numbers in the 87th minute to double its lead.

Rutgers responded with a late push, converting on a corner kick in the 90th minute as Charlie Kitch found the back of the net for his first goal as a Scarlet Knight.

The late tally wasn't enough, however, as the Hoyas held on for the 2-1 victory.

Game Notes

Charlie Kitch scored the fifth goal of his collegiate career and his first as a Scarlet Knight against Georgetown.
William Pierce tallied his eighth career assist, bringing his career point total to 36.
Twenty Scarlet Knights saw the pitch against the Hoyas, including Kitch, who made his Rutgers debut with a goal.
Amer Lukovic once again led the team with five shots, putting two on frame.
Goalkeeper Rafael Ponce de Leon recorded six saves.
Devon Stopek and Ponce de Leon played all 90 minutes Sunday night.

Looking Ahead

Rutgers will play Sacred Heart in its home opener at Yurcak Field on Friday, Aug. 28 (7 p.m.).
