Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch: Cogdell, Goodridge and Nicholls

PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā A trio of Rutgers field hockey student-athletes were named Preseason Players to Watch by the Big Ten Conference. Anna Cogdell, Martha Goodridge and Emily Nicholls earned the preseason all-conference recognition.
Cogdell earns Preseason Big Ten Player to Watch recognition for the second straight season. A junior from Badingham, England who played for the Team England U-21 Junior Women's National Team this summer, Cogdell has started all 35 games in her collegiate career, scoring three goals and adding six assists. An All-Big Ten Freshman team member in 2024, she has been an Academic All-Big Ten and NFHCA Academic Squad selection as well as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Goodridge enters her sophomore season after being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team as a starter in all 18 games. Playing both back and midfielder, she scored four goals and had two assists, including the game-winning goal in an overtime victory over Ohio State. She is a native of Marlow, England.
Nicholls had a breakthrough campaign as a Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection last season. The goalkeeper, who played with Team USA in multiple international competitions, including the U-21 Team this summer, started all 18 games in the cage last season. The Haddon Heights, N.J. native out of Camden Catholic had a 1.61 goals-against-average and 78.8% save percentage. She was second in Big Ten in 6.0 saves per game and third in Big Ten (sixth nationally) in save percentage while making 108 saves, most for a RU goalkeeper since 2006.
Rutgers is ranked No. 17 in the preseason NFHCA Coaches Poll. The squad is set to begin the 2026 season this weekend with a pair of road games. RU starts the season at No. 18 Monmouth on Friday, then travels to Wagner on Sunday.
